Snakes have a highly efficient digestive system that allows them to break down and absorb nutrients from their food quickly. After swallowing their prey whole, snakes use powerful stomach acids to dissolve the food. The nutrients are then absorbed through the stomach lining, while any indigestible parts, such as bones, fur, or feathers, are passed through the snake's digestive tract and expelled as waste. This waste is typically excreted in the form of feces. **

The food that is swallowed lands in the stomach. After being chewed and swallowed, the food travels down the esophagus and into the stomach, where it is mixed with stomach acid and enzymes to begin the process of digestion. From the stomach, the partially digested food moves into the small intestine, where further digestion and absorption of nutrients take place. **

When food is swallowed into the esophagus, it travels down the muscular tube through a series of coordinated contractions called peristalsis. The esophagus pushes the food towards the stomach, where it will be further broken down by stomach acid and enzymes. The esophageal sphincter at the bottom of the esophagus opens to allow the food to enter the stomach and then closes to prevent stomach contents from flowing back up. **
